The KOSPI, tracing the classic speculative cycle
Countless times through history the same pattern repeats in the markets, over and over, and still we never learn.
This time it is the KOSPI, and it has followed the bubble pattern exactly. At the top, a whole generation of investors levered up because they thought a new AI era was coming and the market had no ceiling. It has fallen 43% in six weeks.
The decision
It hurts to watch this happen. I have followed every headline since it topped. First it wrecked thousands of investors. Then their minister came out to apologise. When the fall reached 35%, they opened a suicide helpline.
These are the things that force me to keep a cool head, always: when everyone is winning they adore the markets, right up until the markets ruin their lives because they were not aware of what they were doing. A whole generation of investors with their lives destroyed, for moving on feelings and FOMO.
A chart and a lesson I will keep in my memory forever. And even so, the worst for the KOSPI may still be ahead.
